Adult Jiu-Jitsu Program: This program is designed to teach students the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu both with or without the Gi (kimono). While many schools dedicate their program to solely train Jiu-Jitsu in the Gi or No-Gi during the respective competition season, we are proud to offer a robust curriculum for both year-round.
Below are some of the subjects we will be covering in our Jiu-Jitsu program:
· How to take down an opponent
· How to stop an opponent from taking you down
· How to get on top and control the position (side control, full mount, etc.)
· How to submit an opponent from the top position
· How to fight off your back to submit or reverse the position
· How to attack the back and how to defend against getting choked
This list could go on and on but you get the idea
Jiu-Jitsu with a Self-Defense first approach: S#it is crazy out there so while winning tournaments is cool, it’s cooler to know how to defend yourself. If you look at social media you may see a million different techniques that look incredibly flashy but in reality, they’re the last thing you want to do in a self-defense situation. Learn the fundamentals. They may someday save your life.
My time with Academy has been absolutely incredible. When I first joined it was definitely nerve-racking, knowing absolutely nothing about grappling; but the instructors and classmates were so inviting and helpful. The professors and coaches are extremely knowledgeable and willing to guide you through techniques or offer helpful advice during a live sparring session. Speaking of sparring, I’ve had some incredible experiences from flow rolling with a fellow white belt to using every trick I have against a higher belt it’s always a great learning experience. Plus if Jiu-Jitsu isn’t an interest of yours they offer an excellent kickboxing program, whether you’re experienced or not this class is a perfect fit for everyone. So if you’re curious about Jiu-Jitsu or kickboxing I highly recommend checking Academy out.
